Famous Ships of the Oblique Trilogy

Danae

A Vigilant Class Heavy Cruiser manufactured by Invictus Shipyards for the Pan Systems Commonwealth Fleet. The original contract for the class called for a heavy gun cruiser capable of supporting a picket section of fighters for anti-torpedo and anti-attack craft defence. While the proffered design for the Vigilant was by no means innovative it offered a sound ship at a lower construction cost than the rival bids, and has since become something of a workhorse within the Fleet. The Danae has performed acceptably on long patrol circuits as an anti-piracy platform, but during the Second Canid incursion she was pressed directly into fleet action for the first time. Here the Danae was finally able to distinguish herself, and held a pivotal position in the battles for several key transit corridors. She claimed a number of prestigious ship kills in this time as well as severe battle damage. The Danae was in dock during the latter part of the Incursion, but was one of the first to benefit from Invictus’ upgrade package, and was assigned as flagship to the Seventh Ranger Detachment, operating primarily along the border of the Sirius Cluster.
